Dec 27, 2017 Editor

It cost $33,477.21 for Karen Harper to get elected to Saanich council last September.

Who contributed: Harper herself led the way with $9,829.10 followed by a $5,000 contribution from a numbered company that lists Allen Vandekerkhove as the sole director, and a Harbhajun Sall with $4,615.

You’ll find Harper’s Disclosure Statement with her contributors published today on the Elections BC website.

Harper was elected at the Sept. 23 by-election to replace Coun. Vic Derman who died earlier in the year. She got 2,340 votes – 102 ahead of Rebecca Mersereau. Nathalie Chambers was third with 1,856 votes. Seven other candidates trailed.

Harper is listed on the District of Saanich website as “currently on leave” as a director of Amalgamation Yes and secretary-treasurer of Grumpy Taxpayers. She was the treasurer of Camosun Community Association in 2016-2017 and is retired from the BC Pension Corp.
